Rotary Club of Bunbury Leschenault

What do you do on a cold and blustery afternoon
to make yourself feel good? You go to Rio!
With feather boas at the ready,
members of the organising committee braved
a mid-winter squall to meet up with the major beneficiaries
of this year’s Rotary Club of Bunbury Leschenault’s
Op Shop Ball, Sail into Life.
“The Rotary Op Shop Ball is an opportunity
to give back in two ways
 - by buying items to assemble a costume
from the various Op Shops in the region,
and by buying a ticket to the ball
and taking part in the raffles and auctions on the night,”
said organising committee member, Fiona Hinds.

“This year’s theme, Rio,
gives guests lots of scope for colour and vibrancy
if you think of the Carnival,
 or this year’s Olympic Games
or the animated movie of the same name,” she said.
“We are delighted that Bunbury MLA John Castrilli
has come on board as the event’s Patron,
and the fabulous style-gurus Beth Ferguson
and Joel McGuinness will be volunteering their time
and panache as judges for the
best dressed competitions,” she said.
Rotary Sail into Life coordinator, Sharon Kavanagh
said proceeds from the Ball would enable the project
to continue its sailing program this summer.
"This long-running and very popular program
gives people with disabilities
and their families the opportunity to enjoy a fun,
 social and challenging recreational activity.
"People from 2 years to 80 years can go sailing
assisted by dedicated volunteers in a safe
and supported environment.
"The outcomes are amazing.
 People love it!
You can see the joy on their faces.
It's a part of our community."

The Op Shop Ball takes place on 17 September
at the South West Italian Club
 and tickets are available online
 through the club’s Facebook page,
or click this link to purchase
