RI President Riseley and Juliet, accompanied
by RI Director Mikael Ahlberg and his wife, Charlotte,
visited Thingvellir National Park in Iceland to plant trees
 in the official Friendship Forest.
President Riseley’s tree planting initiative encourages Rotary clubs
to have a one tree planted for every member of their club by Earth Day, 22 April 2018.

At our recent weekly meeting, the Rotary Club of Karrinyup
was delighted to induct and welcome new member Mike.

Originally from the east coast, Mike has lived in Perth for many years now.
After visiting our club for some weeks and coming along to our Stirling Farmers Market,
Mike expressed a keen desire to join us and,
following due process, has now been welcomed into the Rotary family.

Our most recent Paul Harris Fellow - so proud of Sue Svensson
- she has accomplished incredible things.

Side note: She was told to stand up on Monday, even though she was already standing...

standing on the chair seems like an appropriate response

National Tree Planting day saw the Rotary Club of Boulder
join  other community groups including Kalgoorlie and Hannans Rotary clubs
to plant several thousand trees along Gribble Creek this morning.

Always great to see so many people including whole families joining in.

All trees were put to bed within one and a half hours.
Rotary Club of Boulder donated $1500 to the day to help with the expenses on the day.

  • Vocational Service Director Nick Nedkoff, Pres Phil Ledger
  •  and Charter Member Ian McDonagh with the Indigenous Service Award

During the 2016 - 2017 Rotary year, for the third consecutive year,
District 9455 again recognised the Rotary Club of Karrinyup
as having made a significant contribution to Indigenous people through the Earbus project.
President Phil received the award at the District Changeover
and last night was able to present the Indigenous Service Award for 2016 - 2017
to Vocational Service Director Nick and charter member Ian,
whose initiative recommended the project to the club
and who was the driving force behind the fund raising.
The Indigenous service award recognises a club project
that benefits or will benefit the indigenous community or communities the most.
There is no doubt that the Earbus project
will make a huge difference both in prevention, as well as cure,
of ear disease among remote indigenous communities in WA.

The project was completed on budget and on time
in December 2016 with the Earbus being handed over to the Earbus Foundation
for final fit out and road testing.
The official hand over took place at the Stirling Farmers Market in April 2017.

Stuart introduced guest speaker Gillian Lilleyman
, who delighted us with tales from Fanny Bussell Brockman's Diaries
The diaries span the years from 1872 to 1905.
Gillian is the author of "A Garden on the Margaret".
